March 5th Weekly Update From Rep. Ryan Chamberlin

WEEKLY UPDATE FROM REP. RYAN CHAMBERLIN

My fellow Floridians,

We are down to the final days of the 2024 Legislative Session! On Friday, we will complete our time here in Tallahassee. I am so proud of all the hard work my fellow legislators and I put in, but I look forward to being back home in the district with my family. As we head into Week 9, I wanted to update you on where we are in the process and the current status of my legislation.

It has been an incredible honor to serve you in the Florida House. I am excited about the progress we have made to keep the Free State of Florida leading the nation. Thank you for reading!

HB 1415 – Peer Support for First Responders

I am proud to announce that my legislation to extend peer support to correctional officers and correctional probation officers passed in both the House and Senate. HB 1415 will support more of our state’s first responders by allowing correctional officers and correctional probation officers to receive physical, moral, or emotional support from a first responder peer to address job-related physical or emotional conditions. It was an honor to carry this important bill during this year’s legislative session. In Florida, we value the well-being of our first responders and want to do our best to support them. I look forward to the positive impact HB 1415 will have on our state. Click on the video below to watch the bill pass on the House Floor.

It was a privilege to work alongside several passionate and invested stakeholders to make HB 1415 successful, including The Thin Silver Line Alliance, an organization dedicated to advocating for correctional officers and their needs. After the passing of HB 1415, Jeffrey A. Snipes, Executive Director of The Thin Silver Line Alliance, sent me a message that I would also like to share with the district. Read his letter below:

We accomplished this together as a team. Several organizations involving thousands of correctional and other law enforcement leaders from the deputy level through the command level have been actively involved in this fight for almost 50 years or possibly even longer. We are all fortunate to have been a part of these larger efforts. Praise God for providing us all a way to strengthen and improve ourselves and our profession for the benefit of all whom we encounter and affect in our service and in our daily lives. A great victory has been achieved in the State of Florida, but this is a national effort so we still have a great amount of work ahead of us. This victory truly belongs to us all.

The Thin Silver Line Alliance extends our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Representative Ryan Chamberlin of Ocala and all members of the House Civil Justice Subcommittee for sponsoring HB 1415 Peer Support for First Responders.

HB 1415 is truly a landmark piece of legislation with the real potential to save the lives of first responders (Correctional Officers Included)!

Talking About HB 1371 on the Bob Rose Show

Click here to listen to my radio interview on the Bob Rose Show to learn more about HB 1371.

Property tax is one of the most hated taxes in America. Under this taxation system, no one ever fully owns their property, and we are still constrained by the state government to pay rent to keep our property each year. With HB 1371, I hope to start Florida down the road to eliminating this tax. It is time for Florida to take the first step. I had the opportunity to join Bob Rose on his show to share some details about my legislation and what it means for our state. Click on the video above to learn more!

My Co-Sponsored Legislation

During the legislative session, I had the opportunity to support my fellow legislators by co-sponsoring some important legislation for our state. Below are some of the bills I was honored to co-sponsor:
