WEEKLY UPDATE FROM REP. RYAN CHAMBERLIN
My fellow Floridians,
We had another productive week in Tallahassee! Last week, it was great to meet with constituents, stakeholders, and fellow elected officials to discuss how we can build a better future for Florida. As State Representative, I promise to put the good people of District 24 first, and I am committed to ensuring that your voice is heard. I truly appreciate your continued trust and support!
Thank you for reading this recap of some of the great things that happened in Tallahassee. I look forward to keeping you updated on my work in the Florida House.
Tuesday, January 16
I had the pleasure of meeting with students and faculty from Belleview High School during Agriculture Day at the Capitol. It was wonderful to talk with these bright students from District 24 and learn more about the issues important to them.
It was great to meet with representatives from the Marion County Farm Bureau to discuss their legislative priorities and ongoing projects within our county. I look forward to working with them during this year’s legislative session to support our farmers and ranchers in District 24.
I had the honor of discussing legislative priorities with John Frazier, a constituent from Marion County and member of the Florida Chiropractic Association. We talked about his work in the district and the association’s legislative priorities.
It was a privilege to meet with the YMCA of Central Florida and their CEO Kevin Bolding. We had an in-depth conversation about the ongoing and potential appropriations projects needed in Marion and Brevard counties. This wonderful organization has helped many Central Florida families succeed, so it is an honor to fight for their needs in the Florida House.
Wednesday, January 17
It was great to have a visit from Isis LaRose from Better Together to discuss how I can assist the organization and its projects in Marion County and around the state. Better Together works hard to help Floridians thrive by keeping families together and preventing child abuse and neglect before it happens
I had the pleasure of meeting with Marion County Clerk Greg Harrell during Clerk’s Association Day at the Capitol. We had the opportunity to discuss important projects in our county and legislative priorities. It is always an honor to welcome fellow Marion County residents and public servants to my office in Tallahassee.
It was wonderful to visit with Legislative Manager Matt Cretul and members of the Marion County Commission. We enjoyed a lengthy discussion regarding important legislation and appropriations projects. I am always so encouraged by those who want to be involved in the legislative process and are willing to make the trip to Tallahassee.
I had the pleasure of attending a reception for the Florida Senior Living Association after a full day of session. It was great to meet with the members and discuss HB 995, a bill that would directly impact assisted living facilities in Florida. I greatly appreciated their input!
My fellow legislators and I had a great time on the field for the Florida legislature’s 41st annual King of the Hill Softball Game. Republicans faced off against Democrats in a fun-filled night. I am proud to announce that the Republican team took home the win!
Thursday, January 18
It was great to meet with some members of the Marion County School Board to discuss legislative priorities and ongoing projects in the district. Education is an important issue to me, and I look forward to working alongside the board to improve our public school system.
Week 2: Committee Meetings
We made a lot of progress during committee meetings last week. It is an honor to play such a significant role in the future of our state, and I look forward to seeing many of our bills succeed on the House floor in the upcoming weeks.
I met with the following committees during the week:
- Select Committee on Health Innovation
- Regulatory Reform and Economic Development Subcommittee
- Judiciary Committee – Additional progress has been made on HB 1! It passed favorably in its last committee stop.
- Civil Justice Subcommittee
- Education Equality Subcommittee – We had the opportunity to hear HB 545 by Rep. Berny Jacques. This legislation would prevent adult students convicted of felonies from competing in high school sports.
I am working hard for you and your family in Tallahassee! Thank you for electing me to serve you. It is the highest honor to represent you in the Florida Legislature.
I look forward to keeping you updated on my work during the 2024 Legislative Session. As always, if I may be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact my office by clicking here.
Best regards,
Ryan Chamberlin
