WEEKLY UPDATE FROM REP. RYAN CHAMBERLIN
My fellow Floridians,
Thank you for joining me for another legislative update! We are now over halfway through the 2024 Legislative Session. Even though we only have a few weeks left to go, my colleagues and I still have a lot to do before we head back to our districts. I appreciate your continued trust and support during this important process! I look forward to keeping you updated on my work in Tallahassee.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if there is an issue you would like me to address in the Florida Legislature. It would be an honor to be your voice!
Around the Capitol
It was great to meet with representatives from the Ocala Center for the Blind to discuss the important services the center provides and appropriations requests for the upcoming year. This incredible organization comes alongside the visually impaired in our community to help them achieve independence and reach their fullest potential. I am honored to support and advocate for their needs in the Florida House.
I had the opportunity to meet with the Alzheimer’s Association to discuss their legislative priorities and work in Marion County. It is a privilege to work alongside them in efforts to end Alzheimer’s and all other dementia in our state.
I was also able to meet with FDOT District Five Secretary John Tyler to discuss road and infrastructure issues in our region, as well as important projects happening in Marion County. This is a critical area in the continued growth of our district! I greatly appreciate the secretary’s willingness to stop by my office.
Week 6 Committee Meetings
Last week, I joined my colleagues in committee meetings to discuss important legislation for our state. We are making great progress!
Week 6 Committee Meetings:
- State Administration & Technology Appropriations Subcommittee
- Judiciary Committee
I also had the privilege of presenting the following bills in committee:
- I presented HB 1313 in its second committee stop, the Health Care Appropriations Subcommittee. It passed favorably, and its next committee stop is the Health & Human Services Committee.
The laboratory industry in Florida is experiencing a critical shortage of personnel qualified under Florida’s licensure requirements to serve as laboratory technicians. The goal of HB 1313 is to help relieve this shortage by amending state licensure requirements and conforming them to the federal Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) standards that most use.
- I presented HB 1415 in the Judiciary Committee, its last committee stop before heading to the House Floor. I am proud to announce that it passed favorably!
HB 1415 would extend peer support opportunities to correctional officers and correctional probation officers. Peer support means to aid in physical, moral, or emotional support to a first responder by a first responder peer for the purpose of addressing physical or emotional conditions associated with being a first responder.
HB 1371 – Property Tax System Study
My bill, HB 1371, is making waves across our state. This great legislation would start Florida down the road to eliminating property taxes. If you have any questions regarding my tax bill, please watch the video below!
